Hazard curves, spectral shapes, importance coefficients and return periods: insight from recent PSHA studies

Building codes often use implicit or explicit relationships to link importance factors assigned as a function of building consequence class, to various target return periods. The presentation will take advantage of the recently achieved ESHM20 results to investigate the values of hazard curve exponents for various spectral ordinates and their spatial variability across Europe. Their relation to different kinds of seismological attributes (low/high seismicity, shallow / deep, Mmax, b-value, attenuation characteristics, etc.) will be discussed, and their impact on spectral shapes and seismic action parameters considered for the next revision of EC8 as well.
